7:00 - 8:00 Heather Shepherd Paving your own way is the only road to take in this life. No one can do it for you. I was given a guitar for Christmas when I was 11 years old. I was shy and quiet. My father must have sensed that this gift would unlock something inside of me that I never knew I possessed. With that guitar, I discovered I had a voice and a passion for expressing myself with music. With that one instrument, the road I was on changed forever.
These many years I have pursued different avenues with regards to music-- studio vocalist, lead singer in numerous pop/rock bands, backup singer, musicals, operas, choirs, soprano soloist for The Easter Cantata, Love's Greatest Gift for 11 years, and will be soprano soloist for Schubert's Mass in G this coming spring in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Make It Last-- a collection of original Christmas songs I co-wrote with Stephen Nelson. Many more albums are to come! I have been waiting a long time to do this. It is thrilling to be creative, make something new, and share it with others-- to share it with you.
That Christmas opened up the world to me. Music is deeply personal. It allows our emotions to resonate within us. Music can lift us up, take us low, fill us with love, inspire us, help us heal, or keep us singing. It can also give us a voice. It is mine.
So it's true, no one can pave your way, but there are those who help us on our way. The best part of this road I'm on is being married to my Love and being mom to four amazing children! I am blown away by all that I have in my life. I love my family. Life is beautiful. Keep trailblazing! :)

Music Tips

Vocal Tip

Children under 12 who learn voice have a tendency to raise their chin and yell their music. Amateaur music teachers in elementary schhols and church groups tend to tell the kids to sing louder. The focus should be on keping your chin down, open your mouth wide and use plenty of air, but don't yell. And of course, come to the 7 a.m. Saturday vocal class and get one of Dan's Notable Youth singing books.
