Summer Program 2010

Summer Group Classes with Keith Knighton and Dan Whitley plus Performance Schedule

Do-Re-‘Me’ Early Music Development

We are offering 4 NEW sessions in June, July and August.

These sessions will allow for family vacations as students can attend a double class in one week so they won’t miss any training.  This plan will enable us to have adequate rehearsal and lesson time in order to be prepared for performances:

Draper Days  (Sat. July 17th) and our big annual Utah State Fair Performance (Sat. Sept 11th)

Keith Knighton, our Kodaly instructor, has been teaching the Do-Re-Me Early Music Development Saturday morning classes. We have noticed that the children attending his class prior to attending Dan’s intermediate/advanced classes have increased abilities in their piano, voice, guitar, violin and other instruments.

The positive results of Keith’s class have encouraged us to offer additional classes this summer. We have found that the skill level of children taking from him prior to joining Dan’s classes is at least a year younger than ever before in the history of our music program. We have formally published our method books which are now available online or at the Studio.

Proposed schedule of the Do-Re-Me Early Music Development program: Saturday morning 9-10 a.m.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

We will offer these group classes by age and number enrolled.  Absolutely no experience is necessary.

Early Song Birds - age 5-6 (parent or older sibling must attend)
Song Birds - age 7-12

Cost- $12.50/hour ($50/mo) Enroll for all three months, get 5th week free.

For some children two classes a week would be appropriate. See Dan.

Note: Our regular orchestra, bands, folk band and children’s chorus will be held at the usual times.

We would appreciate it if you would invite your friends and neighbors to join our program.

(This is not a ‘sales pitch’ it’s only a ‘music pitch’ (A440 get it?   ;>)

Music Tips

Vocal Tip

Children under 12 who learn voice have a tendency to raise their chin and yell their music. Amateaur music teachers in elementary schhols and church groups tend to tell the kids to sing louder. The focus should be on keping your chin down, open your mouth wide and use plenty of air, but don't yell. And of course, come to the 7 a.m. Saturday vocal class and get one of Dan's Notable Youth singing books.
