Prodigy

This group features a girl and boy lead singer.  Kids audition and work for years to get in this position.  They learn stage manners and how to MC and good showmanship on top of their already advanced musical skills.  Improvisation and jazz are taught.  This band consists of students with over 2 years of previous experience that are able to sing and play at the same time.  We have arrangements for trumpet, trombone, and saxophone.  Prodigy has been performed at Disneyland twice in the last few years and has plans to return in the near future.  Former lead singers that have come through our system include Amber Miller, Tim and Jon Whitley, Jessica Robb, Jacob Veloo, Talmadge Egan, and Michael Pollard. Currently featured are Hannah Rackley and Brandon Reese as lead vocalists.

The Prodigy Jazz Band delighted their Disneyland audience as part of the Disney Performing Arts program for youth!

Thanks to all those who worked so hard to make this possible!

Vocal Tip

Children under 12 who learn voice have a tendency to raise their chin and yell their music. Amateaur music teachers in elementary schhols and church groups tend to tell the kids to sing louder. The focus should be on keping your chin down, open your mouth wide and use plenty of air, but don't yell. And of course, come to the 7 a.m. Saturday vocal class and get one of Dan's Notable Youth singing books.
